Traumatic Brain Injury / Concussion

"You get there faster by taking it slow."

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a complex injury with a broad spectrum of symptoms and challenges. The impact on a person and the family can be devastating. The treatment of TBI is multifaceted and multidisciplinary.

Most of the clients who come to my practice following a concussion, or a series of concussions, experience a host of symptoms. These include headache/migraines, dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, depression, insomnia, loss of concentration or memory, noise sensitivity, light sensitivity, and screen sensitivity. They are struggling to get their life back. The injury itself, and loss of a "normal" life, are often experienced as trauma.

My approach involves focusing on three aspects of your recovery:

(1) Healing the Brain by supporting its natural Ability to rewire

(2) Developing Personalized Symptom Management Skills

(3) Processing the Original Traumatic Incident and its Aftermath

I have found that a combination of treatment modalities including neurofeedback, biofeedback, self-hypnosis, mindfulness, and self-regulatory skills have been the most helpful. I also find it invaluable to coordinate closely with neurologists, rehab professionals and other treatment providers, to ensure the best care for my clients.

Together we can make sure that even when you are slowed down, you are making the most of your healing opportunities. My goals is to support your hard work towards healing and wellness.

I worked with Dr. Fine during a time in my life when I was very fragile – both medically and emotionally. I had suffered three consecutive concussions and was at the height of my symptoms and emotionally distraught when I first started working with her. I can’t say enough about how wonderful she is as a clinician and as a person. She was always incredibly supportive, compassionate and kind. As a clinician she was always very creative and thorough in her interventions. She used self hypnosis and imagery to manage my pain, biofeedback, neuro feedback and many other modalities to help me. She even created hypnosis tapes especially for me that I can listen to at home. She was in constant communication with my other providers, doctors etc., to make sure everyone was on the same page. She always ensured she was up-to-date on any medical or emotional issues to ensure that her approach was the most effective. Dr. Fine was a cornerstone of my recovery and I feel very blessed to have had her to work with during such a traumatic time.
With much thanks and gratitude
